CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Clayton County police chief says arrests could happen soon in response to a brawl that broke out in a bounce house.
Channel 2 Action News first reported on the incident Wednesday on Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat.
The chief told Channel 2's Carl Willis the reason why more action wasn't taken the night of the incident was because officers saw some of the surveillance video, but not enough to determine who started the brawl.
That has since changed.
"I know that people get upset and things get heated," said Akira Eiland-Sharp owner of Kids Planet Party Zone in Clayton County.
She says video shows her sister, who is the manager, being surrounded and attacked by customers Saturday.
"It's never OK to put your hands on someone," Eiland-Sharp said. "Especially in a room full of 100-150 children. I was taken aback"
She wasn't the only one who found issue with the incident.
After Channel 2 Action News aired the video Wednesday, the Clayton County police chief met with Eiland-Sharp on Thursday to talk about her concerns with the fact that no one was arrested or cited for the violence.
Chief Michael Register said that will change.
"We're moving forward to make cases in reference to the incident. The incident is going to involve both adults and juveniles," Register told Willis.
Willis asked the chief why more wasn't done at the scene since Eiland-Sharp said officers viewed the video.
"They did see some video footage, but they didn't see the footage that really showed the altercation," Register said.
"They've corrected the issue now, but that night they just chose not to arrest the ladies for whatever reason, but they saw everything that you saw," Eiland-Sharp said.
The chief said Clayton County police are taking this incident seriously.
"Any time a citizen has any concern about we have responded, that gives me concern and we quickly review those incidents and we make any adjustments that need to be made," Register said.
He said arrests could come in a matter of days.
"I really appreciate you guys for coming out and getting on the story so fast," Eiland-Sharp said. "This just wasn't justice for me. It was justice for the community. Because we're tired of all of the issues and the crime that has plagued this community."
And police said they will increase patrols around the shopping center where the playhouse is. The owner said she's not sure if she will reopen the doors. She says she needs to pray on it.
