DeKalb County postal worker saves elderly woman's life

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — A post office worker is being recognized for saving an elderly woman’s life.

Carrier Chris Montedoro was doing his delivery rounds when he arrived at 90-year-old Elma McIntire’s house and sensed something wrong.

“I bring her mail up to her door and am usually greeted by someone,” Montedoro said. “As I pulled up the driveway, I saw someone lying on the ground reaching out. That’s when I parked the truck and ran her way.”

McIntire said she had gone out to get her mail and fell. It was raining which made the ground slick. She told Montedoro that she didn’t know where she was.

"He carried me in my house and saved my life," McIntire said.

Montedoro called one of her friends, and after she arrived, he knew she was in good hands and continued his rounds for the day.

McIntire was taken to the hospital, where doctors determined that she had broken her shoulder.

She wants everyone to know how much she appreciates the work that those at the post office do.

"I love all you guys,” McIntire said. “You don’t get enough credit. And that sweet man is my sweetheart forever."
