ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Nearly 50 dogs rescued from a puppy mill in Macon will be up for adoption Saturday at the Atlanta Humane Society.
The dogs, which are all small-breeds, first arrived at the Humane Society two weeks ago. They include miniature poodles, cockapoos, schnauzers, bichon-poos and schnoodle mixes.
They were rescued from a licensed breeder in Bibb County who has been charged with 74 counts of animal cruelty. The charges cite inhumane conditions, prolonged suffering, unsanitary conditions and improper housing. The animals were seized from the home on Sept. 4.
The Humane Society says the dogs have had little to no medical care over the years and many of the dogs have ear and eye infections. Several of the dogs are also blind, which they say is not uncommon in puppy mill rescues.
Each dog was assessed medically and behaviorally and has now been cleared for adoption. The dogs have all been spayed/neutered, microchipped and had all necessary vaccinations.
The adoption event will take place at the Atlanta Humane Society’s Alpharetta location at 1565 Mansell Road. Doors open at 11 a.m. but lines are expected to form before that.
