WASHINGTON, D.C. — The nation is mourning the loss of former President Jimmy Carter. He passed away at his home in Plains, Ga. on Sunday afternoon. He was 100.
The Carter Center confirmed on Monday that the former president will lie in state in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.

On Thursday, Congressional leadership announced that there will be a Congressional Tribute for former President Carter in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 3:00 p.m.
The American public will be able to visit the Rotunda and pay their respects to the former president from 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday until 12:00 a.m. that night. Viewing will start back up at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday and run until 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9.
At 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, there will be a ceremonial departure on the East Center Steps.

President Joe Biden has declared Thursday, Jan. 9 a national day of mourning for former President Carter.
After departing the U.S. Capitol, Carter’s state funeral will be held in Washington, D.C. before a private, family memorial service in his hometown of Plains, Ga. He will be laid to rest on Thursday evening.
