Puppy presumably thrown from car recovering in Fulton Co.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A puppy that is believed to have been thrown from a moving vehicle at 3 days old is recovering.

Bosley's Place, a rescue orphanage for newborn puppies, said the puppy came into their care after being brought to a fire station on Fairburn Road in southwest Atlanta.

"A little boy and his dad had driven up to the fire department and they dropped the puppy off in a box. The little boy found it on the side of the road," Jennifer Siegel with Bosley’s Place said.

Firemen took it to Fulton County Animal Services, Bosley’s Place employees said.

They said they rushed over to pick her up and took her to Loving Hands Animal Clinic in Alpharetta.

"She was in pretty bad shape and I just prayed that she was gonna make it until I got her to the next vet," Siegel said. “After the veterinarian evaluated the puppy, she felt the injuries were consistent with the puppy being tossed from a moving vehicle."

Doctor Joanne Roesner says the puppy will require extensive surgeries.

"The wounds this puppy sustained in being thrown from an automobile cover probably 60 percent of her body," Roesner said. "I would say we aren't out of the woods yet in terms of guaranteeing survival."

Roesner says it's not the first time she's treated an animal tossed out of a car.

“She has a long road ahead of her for recovery and the medical care will cost quite a bit,” Siegel said.

They named the puppy, Ember, in honor of the firefighters who got her help.

She said they want to help locate anyone who may know about the puppy’s previous owner.

The group has created a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for Ember's mounting medical bills.
