ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — Students in another metro Atlanta school district will need to add a new item to their back to school lists this year.
Rockdale County approved a clear backpack policy for the 2022-23 school year.

The new rule applies to grades 1-12 but exempts pre-K and kindergarten students. It starts on the first day of school on August 1.
The school system said it will provide each student with one clear bookbag, but supply chain issues have delayed the shipment. The school district expects to get them sometime after Labor Day.

Parents can purchase bags for their students but they must follow the school system’s guidelines.
Mesh backpacks are not allow but the clear ones can have mesh pockets and organizers. Bookbags must have clear visibility, excluding the bookbag bottom.
Colored, transparent bookbags are not allowed, but the clear backpacks can have colored straps.
