The new rule applies to grades 1-12 but exempts pre-K and kindergarten students. It starts on the first day of school on August 1.

The school system said it will provide each student with one clear bookbag, but supply chain issues have delayed the shipment. The school district expects to get them sometime after Labor Day.

Colored, transparent bookbags are not allowed, but the clear backpacks can have colored straps.
