ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — A grandmother has concerns about an unusual punishment for her grandson with special needs.

She says a teacher in Rockdale County made him hang by his belt from the top of a chalkboard.

Tracy Davis says Thursday the principal at Shoal Creek Elementary School in Conyers found her 5-year-old grandson hanging from a blackboard. %

“He was in distress because he was screaming and hollering,” Davis said.

She is furious and says after DFCS interviewed her grandson, she learned this is not the first time the boy's teacher has done this.

The school says it is disciplining the teacher and parapro, along with another teacher, but Davis says that is not enough.

“I don’t want those teachers to ever have the privilege to teach again,” Davis said.

Channel 2 Action News reached out to the school system, and got this response:

"Rockdale County Public Schools takes all matters of this kind very seriously and is currently conducting a full investigation."

Meanwhile, Davis is trying to help her grandson understand.

"He just said he was sad because you know he was scared, he was only 5, and he's hanging from the top of a blackboard," Davis said.
