DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A suspect who led deputies on a chase through two counties was shot by a Rockdale County deputy after a crash on I-20 in DeKalb County, deputies said.
Channel 2′s Tom Regan was in DeKalb County, where mid-morning chaos shut the highway down for hours.
The chase started in Rockdale County and ended in DeKalb County on I-20 west between Panola and Wesley Chapel roads, deputies said.

Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 2 Action News that deputies were chasing an aggravated assault suspect who tired to run over two deputies during a traffic stop two days ago.
On Thursday, deputies chased the suspect for 10 miles, winding on side streets. Deputies said the suspect hit two vehicles on Wesley Chapel Road before veering on to I-20.

At that point, deputies said, the suspect got a flat tire and crashed on the side of the road.
“At that time, he got out of the vehicle and took us on a foot pursuit,” deputies said.
The armed suspect ran across the interstate and deputies shot him.
“At the scene, he was alive and breathing,” deputies said. “To my knowledge, it was not life-threatening.”
Deputies confirmed that the suspect had been caught and had been taken to the hospital. Deputies have not released the suspect’s identity or condition. They have also not said what led the officer to shoot the suspect.
Officials confirmed that no deputies were injured during the chase.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was also called to the scene.
