Police searching for man who stole funeral home van, dumped body in parking lot

CONYERS, Ga. — Police in Conyers are on the search for a man they said led officers on chase in a van he stole from a funeral home.

Investigators said the van’s back hatch was open with a body on a gurney in the back. They say that when the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Kijon Griffin, sped off, he dumped the body out of the back and into the parking lot.

Funeral home workers were able to get the body out of the parking lot.

Police say Griffin began driving down I-20 towards DeKalb County. He was ultimately stopped after crashing into several cars on the interstate, blowing out his tires just before Wesley Chapel Road.

He then ran into the woods between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel Road.
