FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A new clue in the murder of a Sandy Springs grandmother.

Channel 2's Matt Johnson has learned her car ended up 5 miles away from her home.

No one is saying how they believe that stolen KIA ended up there but police are hoping it will help them identify her killer.

Sandy Springs police said someone killed Kay Thomasson, 71, last Wednesday in her home a few miles away from where the car was found in Chamblee.

The case has been a priority for investigators.

"We are very concerned with this. We are working around the clock," said Sgt. Sam Worsham with the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Johnson said detectives were back at the Azalea Place Apartments Monday afternoon. That's where they found Thomasson stabbed to death last week.

Finding the car was a priority for investigators since a family member first told them it was gone.

"When we realized that information we immediately sent out a lookout on the vehicle to surrounding agencies," Worsham said.

A family member discovered Thomasson's body. They went to check on her at the home on Old Woodbine Road, after police said, she uncharacteristically missed an appointment.

"We're trying to find anybody who is in possession of that vehicle. Maybe they can give us some more information," Worsham said.

Police have yet to release a motive in the case, which is a mystery for Thomasson's longtime neighbors.

Property records show she lived in the house for more than 40 years, and a neighbor told us she lived alone.

"I hope, especially for the family that they can get some closure," a neighbor said.
