FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — A search is underway for a man who vanished on a fishing trip.
Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials told Channel 2 Action News that Game Wardens received reports of a possible drowning just after noon on Friday on the Coosa River in Floyd County near the Old River Road boat ramp.

When they arrived, they began searching for a man who had gone under and had not resurfaced.
Floyd County police officials identified the man as 38-year-old John Perkins.
Authorities said Perkins had gone fishing with two other people when their bass boat began to take on water. When all three of them jumped out and attempted to swim to the bank, only two made it back.

Game Wardens, Rome City Fire, Floyd County EMA, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Floyd County Police Department and Georgia State Patrol officials began searching for Perkins with the help of DNR vessels that ran sonar.
The search on Friday was suspended at 9 p.m.

Crews resumed their search at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
The investigation remains ongoing.
