COBB COUNTY, Ga. — There is an urgent search for a serial bank robber who wears a surgical mask every time he strikes.

During a joint Smyrna police and Cobb County police news conference, officers said the robber hit six metro Atlanta banks in the last few weeks.

“We’re hoping this doesn’t escalate further,” said Sgt. Louis Defense. “We don’t want that type of criminal activity in our community. We want to get him off the street as soon as possible.”

Channel 2’s Chris Jose was at the news conference Friday. He learned the man robbed two banks in the city of Smyrna this week.

Police said the robber hit the Wells Fargo on United Drive near the East-West Connector on Monday. He robbed Fifth Third Bank inside the Kroger on South Cobb Drive on Thursday.

“There’s always a potential for any sort of robbery to escalate,” said Sgt. Wayne Delk.

Smyrna and Cobb County police are working with other local agencies and the FBI to locate, identify and arrest the man.

He last seen wearing a dark gray, hooded, Champion sweatshirt, dark-colored sweatpants and black sneakers.

Investigators are asking the public to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS or Smyrna’s non-emergency number at 770-434-6666 with information.
