ATLANTA — Georgia fans are ready to cheer on the Bulldogs to victory in SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday.

The game between UGA-LSU is officially sold out. However, officials warn against falling victim to fake tickets on the secondary market.

Last year, the Better Business Bureau of North Georgia said they received over 15,000 complaints about people posing as ticket resellers.

The Better Business Bureau and Georgia Attorney General’s Office issued a consumer alert Wednesday ahead of the game.

Chris Carr said fans should be vigilant when it comes to purchasing tickets.

“Criminals will take advantage of any opportunity to steal other people’s hard-earned dollars, so make sure you’re dealing with reputable sellers and avoid scenarios that sound too good to be true,” the attorney general said. “In anticipation of conference championship weekend, our Consumer Protection Division has put together some key tips to help you avoid scams, protect your wallet and cheer on the Dawgs with peace of mind.”

Officials said fans should avoid wiring money or sending payments through Zelle, Cash App or Venmo. They also warned against Craigslist or Facebook marketplace.

That is a lesson one fan told Channel 2′s Justin Carter she learned the hard way. She says she has lost hundreds for tickets to a recent UGA-Auburn game.

Another woman on Facebook Marketplace allegedly strung her along and when it came time to transfer them, she stopped responding. The victim showed Carter photos of their conversations.
