Atlanta Police recruit killed in crash that shut down major Atlanta road

The Atlanta Police Department shared a photo of officer recruit Moses Russ, who was killed in an automobile accident on Tuesday morning.

ATLANTA — At least one person is dead after a serious crash shut down a busy road in southeast Atlanta.

On Tuesday afternoon, Atlanta police identified police recruit Moses Russ as the victim.

APD said Russ was in his 16th week of training to be an Atlanta officer and was on his way to the Public Safety Training Center when he was hit.

Triple Team Traffic’s Mike Shields reports the crash happened around 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of Moreland Avenue and McDonough Blvd.

Two of his fellow recruits saw what happened and tried to help, APD said.

On Tuesday morning, Shields saw police escort another ambulance from the scene to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Atlanta police said Russ died of his injuries at Grady Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not been identified, was not injured.

Police said as of now, no one has been charged with anything and the crash remains under investigation.
