ATLANTA — It’s been a tragic week for family and friends who lost their loved one.
Fort Valley State University student Anitra Gunn, 23, disappeared on Valentine’s Day in the Fort Valley area. Her body was found four days later in a wooded area of Greer Road in Crawford County.
On Thursday, we learned her death was ruled as a homicide.
As many around metro Atlanta reflect on Gunn’s life and mourn her death, Channel 2 reporter Tom Jones recounted the last time he saw Gunn, someone he described as “bright and full of life.”
Gunn recently visited WSB-TV Studios during a group tour with other Fort Valley State University students.
Jones said he encouraged the group to be aggressive about their careers and talked to them about the importance of internships and networking.
As Jones provided words of wisdom to the group, he had no idea one of the students’ life would be cut short just a few months later.
In an emotional Facebook post, Jones says Gunn was elated to be at WSB-TV Studios and amazed at the possibilities of life. He says Gunn had “dreams and somewhere to go.”
Later in the post, Jones thanks Gunn for visiting the studio, taking time out to invest in her future and allowing him to be apart of the process.
“Thank you Anitra for caring enough to stop by. So sorry I couldn’t get a call from you saying, ‘Mr. Jones, I got that first job!’ Or, ‘Mr. Jones what do you think about this job offer?’ Or, ‘Mr. Jones can you take a look at my resume reel.’ No. None of that will happen. Instead, I’m left with this picture of what could have been. And that’s what truly saddens me. RIP Anitra.”
