Sheriff removes 4 gators from Georgia golf course

BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy spent the weekend helping alligators find their way home.

According to the sheriff’s office, Animal Enforcement Officer Rebecca Galeazzo headed to a Bibb County golf course after four gators were found wandering the grounds.

Galeazzo got the four gators back to their homes in the wild, unharmed and away from county residents.

Seeing the scaley amphibians outside of the wilds is more common during mating season, which started in April and extends through July. According to the University of Georgia, female gators can lay between 20 and 60 eggs in a season.

While the American Alligator ranges from as far as Florida to even North Carolina, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division said the population is between 200,000 to 250,000 in the state. As mating season gets underway, the creatures range further out of their territory.

The Georgia Wildlife Resources Division shows gator territory ranges in the state from as high up as Monroe and Jones counties, all the way south to the Georgia-Florida border, as well as fully across the state from the west to east borders and coastline.
