DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities in South Georgia are asking for the public’s help in a shooting that left a young boy dead.
The Albany Police Department posted on its Facebook page that officers were called to a home on West Gordon Avenue Sunday night.

When officers arrived, they found a 9-year-old dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Police said the boy was sleeping in his bed when a vehicle passing through the area opened fire.
Police is asking anyone with information on this shooting to call the Albany Police Department at 229-431-2100 or Crimestoppers at 229-436-TIPS.
Hundreds of people commented on the Facebook post about the shooting, many reacting in horror.

“No parent should have to bury their child this way. Prayers for this family,” one person posted.
That area has seen deadly violence recently. In July 2020, a woman was killed and a man was injured in a shooting.
In 2014, APD Detectives said 24-year old LaShon Johnson was killed in a shooting.
