At one point, parents began raising their voices during the town hall meeting.
The meeting went from moderator-only questions to parents getting to ask questions to Devon Horton, the lone finalist for DeKalb County superintendent.
Earlier in the meeting, Horton told the crowd of parents and teachers that if he is hired, he plans to hire more teachers, address mental health support for students and staff, and work to improve dated and damaged school facilities.
After the meeting, Horton talked to the media about his ability to lead a large district like DeKalb County, which consists of roughly 130 schools.
“In Louisville, I was over 172 schools. So I wanted to make sure parents understand as chief of schools, I’ve worked for very large organizations making decisions and guiding and building systems,” said Horton.
