Man arrested after beating, stabbing 15-year-old sister to death, police say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The brother of a teenage girl found dead at a local apartment complex is in jail and is facing murder charges.

Dunwoody police tell Channel 2 Action News they were called to an apartment complex on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard Monday afternoon after witnesses said they saw Gavin Denzell Henderson beating his 15-year-old sister, Keaira Henderson.

When officers arrived, they found the teen lifeless in the hallway. They said it appeared Keaira had been stabbed multiple times.

“When our officers arrived, moments later, they found a female deceased in a breezeway,” Dunwoody Police Sgt. Parsons said.

A short time later, Gavin called 911 from a nearby business and told authorities that he wanted to turn himself in to police.

“He had a knife, a big knife, a big size. He put it on the counter,” said store worker Shehab Faisal. “He just (asked) me, ‘Can you call the cops?’ I said, ‘Why?’ He said, ‘There’s been an accident.’ He (was) showing me blood on his hands and t-shirt.”

Officers arrived and arrested Gavin. A knife was found at the time of his arrest, police said.

Police said Gavin and Keaira lived at the apartment complex with their mother and other relatives.

Gavin was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to children.

Authorities are still investigating the motive for the attack.
