ATLANTA — A family friend told Channel 2 Action News the stepson of singer Usher Raymond died of heart failure on Saturday morning, approximately two weeks after he got hurt in a Lake Lanier accident.

A friend of the child's family had earlier reported that Kile was taken off life support but later clarified that the child died of heart failure.

Kile is the son of Usher's former wife, Tameka Foster. Kile was critically injured in a boating accident on Lake Lanier about two weeks ago, suffering a brain injury. He and a 15-year-old girl were injured around 3:30 p.m. when they were run over by a man on a personal watercraft, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources previously said.

Both Kile and the teenager were flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Kile was unresponsive when pulled from the lake following the crash, the DNR said in previous reports.

The DNR identified the man on the personal watercraft as Jeffrey S. Hubbard of Atlanta, according to an incident report obtained by the AJC. The DNR has said that Hubbard and the children tubing were part of the same group on an outing at the lake.

The DNR has said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident, which happened in the mouth of Big Creek near Holiday Marina.

The DNR released the following statement on Sunday morning: "The Georgia DNR, Wildlife Resources Division is saddened to report that sources have confirmed that the 11-year-old victim of the incident on Lake Lanier of July 6, 2012 has passed away.  Our thoughts are with the family at this time.  The investigation into the incident continues.  This is all the information our agency has at this time."
