Patient killed in ambulance crash in Fairburn, driver arrested on DUI charge

FAIRBURN, Ga. — Fairburn police said they are investigating a deadly wreck involving an ambulance.

The wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday on West Campbellton Street near Golightly Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the ambulance flipped over in a ditch.

Georgia State Patrol investigators responded to the scene and identified the driver as 34-year-old Kevin McCorvey.

They said McCorvey was driving for a private ambulance company south on West Campbellton and failed to maintain his lane, driving off the shoulder of the road causing the ambulance to flip over and land in a ditch.

Investigators said McCorvey had a non-emergency patient in the vehicle, 66-year-old Wilton Thomason Jr. They said Mr. Thomason was not restrained and was killed when the ambulance rolled over.

TRENDING STORIES:

The state patrol said McCorvey was given a sobriety test on the scene and he is now facing charges of DUI, 2nd degree vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane and possession of an open container.

He was arrested and taken to the Fulton County jail.
