SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A father and his girlfriend are in custody as police work to identify a body believed to be that of a 7-year-old girl.

The search for the girl in East Point turned into a homicide investigation Thursday afternoon.

Kamaire's father told police that he last saw the child when he put her to bed Wednesday night wearing a matching polka dot pajama set. When he woke up in the morning, he told police the front door to their McClelland Avenue apartment was open and Kamaire was missing. %

"They said they searched for about an hour or so. When they didn't find her, that's when they contacted law enforcement," said Capt. Cliff Chandler.

Three other children were inside the home at the time along with the girl's father and his live-in girlfriend.

After hours of questioning, officers arrested Kamaire Wash's father and his live-in girlfriend in connection with the girl's death.

Police are now investigating a possible connection to a body pulled from Allatoona Lake in Bartow County on Wednesday.

Police are not confirming a connection between the two cases but a Bartow County investigator showed up at East Point police to talk about the case Thursday afternoon.

After a conversation between the two agencies and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, police announced Kamaire's disappearance as a homicide investigation and took the father and his girlfriend into custody.
