SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Someone opened fire on an apartment building in East Point and a mother says a bullet missed her 1-year-old by inches.

"The bullet holes are in our curtains," Latoya Brown said. "There's a bullet here where it came through the blinds."

Brown said stray bullets flew through her living room, bedroom and kitchen Tuesday night at the Hidden Cove apartment complex.

"I'm telling everyone to get down and my baby is sitting right there in her walker," she said. "The bullet went directly past her into the TV"

Brown said she was pinned down and couldn't get to her phone to call 911 until the shots stopped. She said police found 41 shell casings.

Brown believes the shooters fired from the street and were aiming at her upstairs neighbors.

Police said 17-year-old Michael Williams was in the upstairs apartment and was shot in the side.

"Do you know if he was the intended target," Channel 2's Audrey Washington asked East Point police Det. Ebony Johnson.

"That we don't know. He did not live there. He was just visiting some friends," Johnson said.

Police say there were also a number of children inside the apartment where Williams was shot. Thankfully, no one else was hurt,

Police are speaking to Williams about the shooting.

Brown said the bullets also hit her car and left her without her only form of transportation.

The mother said she's terrified that her family was caught in the line of fire.

"I know from experience how it feels to bury a child, so to think I could have buried my 1-year-old, that was just heartless," Brown said.

Police are searching for information that will lead to to whoever was behind the shooting.

Detectives say the shooter sped away in a white car. They are stepping up patrols at the complex while they search for the gunman.

Brown said her family doesn't feel safe at home, fearing something like this could happen again.
