Father shot, killed driving home from work

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Friends and family are remembering a new father shot and killed on his way home from work.

Laron Lowe, 32, was working as security at 29 Degrees Sports Bar in East Point last week when police say he got into a fight with three people.

Later that night as Laron Lowe left work, the men are accused of following him into College Park and opening fire on his vehicle. Laron Lowe, who was in the car with a co-worker at the time, was shot and killed.

“I'm going to miss him. I love him. He's gone too soon,” his mother, Gwendolyn Lowe, told Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes.

“I can't figure out why they would take his life for no reason. It was very senseless,” his mother said.

His family described him as a loving father and said they are struggling to understand why someone wanted him dead.

“He had a smile that would brighten up anyone’s day,” Gwendolyn Lowe said.

The accused shooter, Malcolm Pitts, turned himself in on Wednesday.

Two other suspects were also arrested and charged with murder in connection to Laron Lowe’s death.

The family has created a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses.
