SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A suspect is dead and two police officers are injured after an officer-involved shooting in south Fulton County.

The shooting happened at the Legends at Laura Creek Apartments in East Point Friday morning.

Police said they were first called to a domestic-related situation, but could not find the man who was reportedly involved.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, East Point police officers then responded to a 911 call of a suspicious person at the complex at around 3:30 a.m.

They confronted the suspect, who became combative, GBI officials said.

An officer used his Taser, according to the GBI. Police then shot at the suspect, who was hit. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died, according to the GBI.

Lesley Webster told Channel 2’s Liz Artz that she heard everything from the time police started arguing with the man to the gunfire. She said that’s when she ran over to find the man had been shot and was being worked on by police.

"It sounded like they were trying to make him leave the premises. It sounded like he might have been intoxicated," Webster said.

She said she recognized the suspect from the complex.

“I see him all the time. He comes to the building all the time,” she said. “He’s a real cool dude. Every time I speak to him, he’s friendly.”

Two police officers who were injured in the altercation were also taken to area hospitals, the GBI said. One was grazed by a bullet that ricocheted and the other was injured during the fight.

One of the officers was released from the hospital Friday afternoon.

The GBI is investigating. The two officers will be on standard paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
