SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police have released a sketch of a man they said raped a woman and brutally beat her.

The attack happened sometime before 9 p.m. on Feb. 23 at an abandoned complex off Washington Avenue.

Investigators said the 30-year-old woman was lost and the man lured her from the East Point MARTA station by telling her he knew a shortcut.

He assaulted her at the abandoned Washington Circle housing projects, according to officers.

The victim escaped and ran to a nearby trailer park for help.

"She did not know this guy  and to think you could do such a heinous crime to a person you don't know could possibly lead to a sexual predator," East Point police Det. Ebony Johnson said.

Channel 2's Liz Artz showed the suspect's sketch to people around the area.

"Sometimes I walk through the neighborhood, but I haven't seen him," Reverend Larry Banks said.

"I've seen him before. I believe he stays close to that school up there," neighbor Frederick Reese said.

DNA from the assault kit is being tested at the GBI crime lab.
