Mystery surrounds man hit along South Fulton road, police searching for driver who hit him

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — Police are working to identify a hit and run victim and the driver who hit him. Several cars hit the victim after he was initially struck.

Neighbors told Channel 2′s Tom Jones they heard a commotion Sunday night along Jonesboro Road near Bethsaida Road, but didn’t know what it was. They were shocked when Jones explained to them that a man was hit and killed along the busy road.

City of South Fulton police said a man was walking in the yellow striped portion the road when he was hit by a car around 9 p.m. After that driver sped away from the scene, the man was hit by several more cars.

“The last car that hit the pedestrian, he got wedged under the car,” Lt. Craig Harper with the City of South Fulton police said.

The mother of the woman who was driving the final car to hit the man says her daughter noticed cars swerving then hit something.

Her daughter got out to find the victim under her car.

Neighbors say drivers race down Jonesboro Road, creating a danger for anyone trying to cross the street.

“These loud cars, they race at night,” said neighbor Mary Harris.

Police say people in a nearby subdivision will often cross the highway to reach a dollar store or the bust stop.

Neither the victim or the hit and run driver have been identified.

“We didn’t find anything, no kind of identification on him at the time,” said Lt. Harper.

Police say the Medical Examiner is using fingerprints to try and identify the victim.
