Police make second arrest after men’s bodies found in back of burning truck

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators have made a second arrest in connection to the killing of two men whose bodies were found in the bed of a burning truck in Spalding County.

The burning truck was found in April along Jackson Road. Investigators said the Chevrolet Z71 pickup truck was parked just inside the wood line fully engulfed in flames.

As firefighters put out the fire, crews found the bodies of Joshua Wyatt and Carlos Bedford in the bed of the truck. The fire was so intense, it destroyed the truck’s VIN, plates and the truck had no tag.

Spalding County Investigators quickly secured a warrant for Erik Eduardo Cabrea Lopez and charged him with two counts of murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of concealing a death and two counts of tampering with evidence.

Cabrea Lopez was taken into custody in Fulton County later that week after a police chase in which a Georgia State Trooper performed a PIT maneuver.

“It was learned that she was continuously moving between residences in Georgia and California,” a sheriff’s office news release said.

Sanchez was arrested in DeKalb County on Friday on unrelated charges and then transferred to the Spalding County Jail.

She is currently being charged with two counts of felony murder, two counts of robbery, two counts of tampering with evidence, two counts of concealing the death of another and three counts of arson.

Investigators said they continue to follow leads in this case.

“This was the worst crime I have ever seen and these young men, and their families, deserve justice,” Dix said.
