Deputies were called to a shooting at an apartment complex on Northside Drive on Feb. 20 around 1 p.m.. First responders found Charlotin Presley, 25, inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to the side. He was rushed to the hospital, but died of his injures.
Investigators recovered surveillance video that showed a fight break out between a group of men in the parking lot. Deputies said Brandon Hawkins, 19, pulled a gun out and started shooting. It’s unclear if Presley or any of the other men in the group fired back.

“There were children playing nearby,” Sheriff Darrell Dix wrote. “Some of them ran, some took cover, and some just continued to play like nothing was going on.”

Dix said that considering the number of rounds that were fired, it’s a miracle that none of the children were shot.
Dix said there may be additional arrests. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office.
