ATLANTA — Police say a driver did his own detective work, tracked down his stolen car at a gas station and shot the suspect.
The shooting happened around 7:30 a.m. at a BP gas station near Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and Bolton Road in northwest Atlanta.
Police said the victim tracked the car theft suspect to a pump and confronted him. That’s when both fired their weapons.
The suspect was hit in the stomach and taken to the hospital.

Channel 2′s Tom Jones spoke to people who said they understand why the victim tracked down the suspect.
“That’s my truck. That’s my wife’s car And guess what. If somebody take it I’m going look for it. It’s just the way I am. I’m going look for it,” said Lawrence Webber.
Police say the suspect is stable.
Officers say this is all still under investigation. The man who tracked the stolen car was not arrested at the scene.
