Student removed for bringing “kill list” to metro Atlanta middle school, officials say

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A student has been removed from a local middle school after officials say the student brought a “kill list” to campus.

Schools officials at Madras Middle School conducted an investigation and found out the student had six names on the list. The student who was alleged to have created the list was removed from class.

A letter was sent out Wednesday informing the parents about the situation. According to the letter, a classmate reported the list to school officials after a student was showing it around in the cafeteria.

The parents of the students whose names were on the list have been contacted by school officials.

“The administration’s continued emphasis on safety remains an utmost priority. Please remind your students to notify the administration at any time when they are concerned about their safety," the letter said.

“It could be a cry for help, we don’t know,” parent Jotta Adam said.

When Adams heard that a student at her son’s middle school had a “kill list” with six students name on it, it was hard for her to imagine.

“For kids to already have that kind of hate in their heart, to try and hurt one another, it’s very troubling to me,” Adams said.

Waynette Downs was a little disturbed when she got the letter, but also satisfied with the way the school handled it.

“I appreciate them keeping parents informed, Madras does an awesome job at making sure parents are informed and I have total confidence that they took care of the situation,” Downs said.

When school officials sent this letter to parents, they ended it by asking parents to make sure their kids know, if they see something or hear something that makes them feel unsafe: Don’t hesitate to speak up.
