COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A 16-year-old who was hit outside South Cobb High School Tuesday morning has died.
Cobb County police confirmed the teen died Wednesday morning.
Authorities say the teen and a friend were trying to cross from the school to Austell Road at 9:16 a.m. when a Dodge Neon hit the student.
The student was taken to Wellstar South Cobb Hospital and then to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
Channel 2's Ross Cavitt learned Tuesday the teenager was in "extremely critical condition."
The driver of the car did stop and was not injured. Cavitt said the driver appeared to be distraught.
A photo of the scene taken by a viewer and shared with Channel 2 showed the victim's backpack and belongings strewn across the road.
Cavitt reported a pair of long skid marks leading into the accident scene but police said they don't think the driver was speeding.
No charges are expected, according to police.
