COVINGTON, Ga. — An officer is being treated Grady Memorial Hospital after being dragged during a traffic stop Friday, Covington police said.

A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the officer’s injury, Channel 2’s Courtney Francisco reports.

Destinee Riggins was arrested in Covington and charged with shoplifting, fleeing to elude and aggravated assault on a police officer. Those charges could increased.

She was found at an apartment complex on Highway 36.

Police say the officer conducted the traffic stop after a shoplifting call at Walmart on Industrial Drive.

Earlier today, the officer said the shoplifting call was from at the QuikTrip on Highway 142.

The officer was dragged a few hundred yards before being thrown off the vehicle, Covington PD said.

Authorities say the officer is currently in stable condition. The identity of the officer hasn’t been disclosed.
