Suspected burglar shot, killed by police in Gordon County, GBI says

CALHOUN, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in Calhoun, Georgia.

The GBI says Calhoun police officers were called to a home on Adair Street at 3:45 a.m. Thursday to a burglar armed with a knife inside the home.

Officers found a man, later identified as 37-year-old Jose Brito Lopez, inside the home.

GBI investigators say Lopez was Tased by an officer after not showing them his hands and making his way towards them with the knife. When the Taser did not stop Lopez, another officer shot him. He was later pronounced dead.

TRENDING STORIES:

No officers or anyone living in the home were injured during the incident.

Once the GBI finishes their investigation, the case will be handed over to the Gordon County District Attorney’s Office.

The officers involved in the shooting have not been identified.
