Teen dies in ropes course accident at adventure park

CUMMING, Ga. — Family and friends are mouning the death of a Forsyth County teen who died after an accident at an adventure park in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Channel 2's Matt Belanger obtained the police report that said Greg Horan was taking part in a ropes course at Ijams Nature Park's newly opened "canopy adventure course" on July 22.

Officials say Horan slipped off a suspended log, and ended up hanging from the log with his harness around his neck.

Horan was in critical condition for a week until he died Wednesday at a Tennessee hospital.

Channel 2 Action News obtained a third-party inspection report that determined each piece of safety equipment Horan was wearing required standards. The accident may have exposed an "incompatibility" when the pieces are used together.

State inspectors in Tennessee suspended the newly-opened attraction's operating license.

The ropes course has been deemed "unsafe" and must remain closed until changes are made.

The park issued a statement expressing its condolences and saying it will fully cooperate with the investigation.
