It's unclear if any adults were in the house or how many other minors were inside.
Neighbors tell Channel 2's Matt Johnson the teenager killed wanted to become an engineer and had enrolled in college prep classes this year.
“I was just crying when I heard about it, I was heartbroken,” said neighbor Stephanie Wilson.
Wilson says she didn't think Saturday night would be the last time she would see him alive.
“He was a very intelligent young man, and he's just like a son to me, and I’m going to miss very, very, very much,” Wilson said.
Neighbors said they will rally behind the teenager's grieving loved ones.
“His mom, his sister and his girlfriend, everybody trying to keep strong and keep the faith that’s all,” Wilson said.
Detectives are continuing their investigation and anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact the Marietta Police Department tip line (770) 794-6990.
