PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Investigators are trying to piece together the death of a 17-year-old found lying along a busy highway.

The body of Christopher Jordan Babilonia was found 11:30 p.m. on Hwy. 74 southbound just north of Paschal Road in Peachtree City, police said. Babilonia's golf cart was found 20 yards away.

Channel 2's Lauren Pozen was in Fayette County, where police said the details just don't add up.

Police said Babilonia crashed his golf cart in a tunnel that runs under the highway. His family found the golf cart in the grass.

What police want to know is how his body ended up 20 yards away at an intersection.

"Being that he is so young it concerns everybody and it is really difficult," Lt. Odilia Bergh with the Peachtree City Police Department told Pozen.

Investigators combed the section of a golf cart trail that goes under the highway Friday afternoon. They found skid marks in the grass.

"It appears he sustained some injuries from that golf cart accident," Bergh said. "What we don’t know is how he ended up on the highway.”

TRENDING STORIES:

Police say after the accident, the teen made it across the street from the golf cart path. From there, it's unclear what happened. Police say Babilonia had significant injuries that looked like a larger vehicle was involved.

There were no vehicles or witnesses at the scene.

Police don't know where Babilonia was headed last night. He lived about a mile from the accident site.

Family said he was a student at McIntosh High School. A spokeswoman for the district said counselors were on hand Friday for his classmates.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

"If any motorist remembers seeing anything or feeling anything, it’s really important that they reach out and talk to us," Bergh said.
