ATLANTA — Metro Atlanta and Georgia has earned it’s rightful place as “Hollywood of the South.”
With a booming film industry with hefty tax credits, filmmakers have been flocking to the Peach State to make their movies.
Among the hundreds of TV and film projects being made in Georgia, these seven movies are some of the most anticipated of 2025.
“Back in Action” - Jan. 17
Starring: Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz
Netflix’s “Back in Action” marks two major events. The movie marks Cameron Diaz’s return from retirement from acting with her first film role since playing Ms. Hannigan in the 2014 version of “Annie.” Coincidentally, that movie also featured Jamie Foxx as Daddy Warbucks.
“Back in Action” is also the movie Foxx was filming when he suffered a health scare in Atlanta and was hospitalized. He recently revealed he suffered a brain bleed and a stroke.
In this film, Foxx and Diaz play former CIA spies who are pulled back into the world of espionage when their secret identities are exposed.
“You’re Cordially Invited” - Jan. 30
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Will Ferrell
This Amazon Prime Video comedy features Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell planning the wedding of their respective loved ones’ dreams. But they soon learn that the destination wedding venue has been double-booked.
The two families compromise and decide to share the venue, but it doesn’t exactly go as planned.

The first of 2025′s three installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Anthony Mackie is back to reprise his role as Sam Wilson. But this time, instead of taking up the mantle of The Falcon, he’s become Captain America, the title given to him at the of Disney+ series “The Falcon and Winter Soldier.”
Harrison Ford and Liv Tyler are joining the MCU as father-daughter pair General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Betty Ross. Thaddeus Ross was previously played in the MCU by William Hurt. Tyler is reprising her role as Betty Ross from 2003′s “Hulk,” which was not part of the MCU we know today.
The overall plot of “Captain America: Brave New World” has been kept pretty well under wraps, with the official synopsis only confirming that Mackie’s Wilson finds himself “in the middle of an international incident.”
“The Electric State” - Mar. 14
Starring: Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Woody Harrelson
Set in an alternate version of 1994 and loosely based on a graphic novel, “The Electric State” sees Millie Bobby Brown’s character approached by a robot, voiced by Woody Harrelson, that claims to know her missing brother.

The second MCU film on this list features a group of misfits not known for their heroic actions being brought together and going on missions for the American government.
“Thunderbolts*” has been being teased for years in Marvel’s iconic post-credits scenes in other projects featuring these characters.
Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko and more reprise their roles from several other movies and TV series.

“Superman” - July 11

“The Naked Gun” - August 1
Starring: Liam Neeson, Paul Walter Hauser, Pamela Anderson
A reboot of “The Naked Gun” comedy franchise, Liam Neeson stars as Frank Drebin Jr., so as not to contradict Leslie Neilson’s iconic role of Lt. Frank Drebin from the original trilogy.
Not much is known about the reboot, but Paul Walter Hauser will take over the role of Capt. Ed Hocken, previously played by George Kennedy.
A trailer hasn’t yet been released for the film.
