ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Georgia’s “best hole-in-the-wall restaurant” is just a little more than an hour’s drive from Jacksonville.
Love Food this week published a list of the “best hole-in-the-wall restaurant” in all 50 states.

“From historic spots that started out as literal holes in the wall to basic diners that always offer a warm welcome and wonderful plate of food, we’ve rounded up the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants across the US,” Love Food wrote in its report.

Southern Soul Barbecue on St. Simons Island, the Georgia entry on Love Food’s list, is no stranger to recognition for its food. In October, it made Southern Living’s ‘The South’s Top 50 Barbecue Joints’ for 2022.

In 2017, it was also featured in Southern Living among “The South’s Best BBQ of 2017.″
Love Food talked about how Southern Soul’s building used to be a gas station in the 1950s. Now, the publication wrote, “instead of gas, servers dispense tender beef, pork, turkey, and wild game to devoted customers and lucky passers-by every day.”
Southern Soul Barbecue is located at 2020 Demere Road on St. Simons Island. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except Tuesday.
