ATLANTA — Many of you are starting the week off with your power back up and running after Tropical Storm Zeta but that’s not the case for everyone.

The tropical storm slammed Georgia Thursday with wind gusts of up to 70 mph and at one point, left more than 1 million people without power.

As of Monday morning, we’ve learned more than 8,000 people are still without power.

Georgia Power said 1,000 of its customers are still in the dark and Georgia EMC is reporting more than 7,100 outages.

“The damage from Hurricane Zeta was widespread across Georgia and throughout the Southeastern United States. We had more than 4,000 people working around the clock to restore service for our customers as safely and quickly as possible, and I’m extremely proud of their work and dedication,” said Chris Womack, president of Georgia Power. “I want to thank our customers who were impacted by this storm for their patience during restoration. I also want to personally thank the other utilities, public safety and governmental partners who worked together to help in the response to Hurricane Zeta.”

Georgia EMC says crews will continue work throughout today and tonight to restore power – many on 16 or 18-hour shifts. They hope to have power back to everyone by tonight.
