Cobb County police told Channel 2 Action News that the incident happened when the driver of a Tesla lost control and crashed on I-285 around 4:35 a.m. The driver, 29-year-old Vivek Iyer, then got outside of his car and entered the travel lanes. A moment later, a Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with the Tesla, and a Toyota Rav4 SUV crashed into the rear of the Dodge, which sent the Rav4 colliding with Iyer, who was still in the travel lanes.
Iyer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The northbound lanes were shut down for hours as police investigated the crash. The crash also shut down Cobb Parkway at I-285 southbound and northbound ramps to allow traffic to exit off I-285 NB.
All roads and lanes reopened shortly after 8:30 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information regarding this collision should contact investigators at 770-499-3987.
