32-year-old man killed on 75/85 after being hit by SUV, thrown over median, then hit by bus

ATLANTA — Police said a 32-year-old man who was on foot on the downtown Connector early Wednesday morning was hit by an SUV before being thrown over the median and hit by a bus.

Triple Team Traffic’s Mike Shields first reported the crash near the University Ave exit around 5:30 a.m. on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

Atlanta police confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that the victim, who hasn’t been identified, was walking in the HOV lane when a Ford Explorer hit him. The impact of the crash threw the victim over the median wall and into the HOV lane on the northbound side of the highway, where he was hit by a motor coach bus.

Both the drivers of the Explorer and the bus stayed on the scene.

“Due to the complexity of the scene multiple lanes in both directions of the connector were restricted for several hours,” police said.

Police said they are still investigating why the man was walking on the highway.

Police cleared the scene at 9:15 a.m.

It’s not the only crash on the downtown connector this morning.

Shields reports that a multi-car crash now has lanes blocked on I-75/85 NB near 17th Street. Channel 2 Action News has reached out to confirm if there were any injuries in that crash.
