Train derails in Georgia county, dozens of cars blocking road

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — Crews have a big cleanup on their hands after a train went off the rails and spilled dozens of cars onto the roadway.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said that the Norfolk Southern train derailed around 1 a.m. Monday in downtown Oconee, which is about 50 miles east of Macon. Approximately 32 cars have spilled onto Central Drive.

Central Drive is completely blocked until crews can clear the area.

Authorities are asking people to use caution while traveling in this area.

There were no reports of injuries.
