CAMILLA, Ga. — The person killed during an explosion at a Tyson Foods plant in south Georgia didn’t work there.
The woman’s identity has not been released, but the Mitchell County coroner confirmed to WTXL that the person killed in the explosion at the Camilla plant was a 61-year-old woman.
WTXL learned that the woman was accompanying her husband, a truck driver, to the plant. She was sleeping in the truck, which was burned by the explosion.

Both the victim and her husband are from Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was inside the building at the time of the explosion, but was not hurt.
At least two other people were injured and taken to the hospital, but there is no word on their current conditions.

Tyson Foods shared a statement with WTXL that offered their condolences to the woman’s family.
“We are working closely with local authorities to determine the cause of a late-night fire at our Camilla, Georgia facility that resulted in the death of one person and several injuries. We extend our deepest condolences to their family and friends during this difficult time. Right now we are still gathering the facts, but ensuring the safety of our team members is our top priority, and we are conducting a full investigation into the cause of the fire.”
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
