Teen hurt in double-shooting at troubled DeKalb County gas station

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Customers were forced to duck for cover during a shooting at a DeKalb County gas station on Sunday afternoon.

Police say a teenager and a young man were hurt when at least one person opened fire outside of the Texaco gas station on Snapfinger Woods Drive.

Several stray bullets went inside an attached cellphone store and a barber shop next door during the afternoon shooting.

Channel 2's Matt Johnson spoke with investigators who said the glass hit customers. DeKalb County police said they are very familiar with the store because they've responded to homicides, SWAT standoffs and drug deals there.

Neighbors told Johnson they're tired of it.

"I come to this store. I don't want to get shot," a customer told Johnson.

It was around 4 p.m. when police showed up but they found the 26-year-old and 15-year-old victims somewhere else.

"A bystander transported the two victims to an area hotel to seek medical aid," said Lieutenant Shane Smith with the DeKalb County police department.

The two victims are expected to survive and no arrests have been made.

"We haven't been able to determine a motive yet," Smith said.

In 2016, a shooting in front of the same Metro PCS store ended with bullets hitting two bystanders.

This is at least the fourth shooting at the gas station in a year and a half.

Some neighbors said less crime could could start with fewer people using the place as a hangout.

"Just standing around, you know? They could be finding something positive to do," a customer said.

Police said they're trying to make contact with the gas station manager who will be able to access surveillance video from the latest shooting.
