ATLANTA — Some Georgia Bulldog fans are trying to get on some of the last flights out of Atlanta ahead of Monday’s National Championship game in Los Angeles.

As of Sunday night, most flights from Atlanta to LAX were mostly sold out.

“I’m going to LA to see the dawgs bring home this victory,” said traveler Sheryl Merritt.

The few seats that were still available among Delta, American and United Airlines Sunday afternoon were running between $1,000 and $5,000.

The cheapest option Channel 2 found for travelers was via Southwest and Spirit with flights ranging between $500 and $900.

Channel 2′s Elizabeth Rawlins spoke to some travelers who have been saving all year.

“Last January, I started putting $5 bills in a box, and now I’ve got about $1,200,” said Jerry Howell.

Chris Biggs lives in the United Kingdom and has been a Dawg fan for nearly ten years. He finally cashed in his savings this past year.

“I’m really excited,” said Chris Biggs. “This is like Christmas Eve for me. I can’t wait.”

TRENDING STORIES:

A trip from Georgia to L.A. is likely one of the longest trips for most Dawg fans, but Biggs may have set a record for miles traveled to a UGA game, coming from the United Kingdom to watch a game in Athens last fall.

However, Biggs told Rawlins he would be watching this game from across the pond.

“It will start after midnight here so there maybe coffee and a nap before the game starts,” said Biggs.

There’s no rest for the weary for many die-hard Dawg fans. There’s no place they wouldn’t travel to because, regardless of the time and cost, the experience is priceless.

“This is a chance of a lifetime,” said Howell.

“You only live once,” said Merritt.
