UGA running back, Evander Holyfield's son, arrested overnight

CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. — Elijah Holyfield, the son of former boxing legend Evander Holyfield, was arrested on drug charges overnight.

Holyfield, a running back for the University of Georgia, was arrested in Athens on misdemeanor charges of possession of drug-related objects and marijuana possession, less than 1 oz. and use of drug related objects.

Holyfield was booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail jail at 3:19 AM.  Holyfield was released less than an hour later, at 4:08 a.m.

A team spokesman says coach Kirby Smart is aware of the arrest.

Under Georgia's drug and alcohol policy, Holyfield would be suspended one game for a first violation. Georgia opens against Appalachian State on Sept. 2.

Holyfield rushed for 29 yards on six carries as a freshman and will contest for playing time at one of the deepest positions on the team. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel are Georgia's top running backs.
