The vehicle reversed, hitting the officer’s patrol car, and then sped off going north down the one-way street. The Jaguar hit a utility pole near Juniper Street and 11th Street, flipped over and burst into flames.

A man inside the vehicle got out of the car and was on fire. Officers doused him with a fire extinguisher and he was rushed to Grady hospital, where he died.

A woman was found dead inside the vehicle.

A gun was recovered from the scene.

Investigators are still working to identify the suspects.

“An initial review of the incident indicates this was in violation of the department’s no chase policy,” Atlanta Police said in a statement, “However, a more in-depth review will be conducted.”
