U.S. Senate passes resolution honoring Georgia’s back-to-back national titles

ATHENS, Ga. — The U.S. Senate honored the Georgia Bulldogs and their back-to-back national championships.

Sen. Jon Ossoff and Sen. Raphael Warnock introduced a resolution to honor Georgia, which was passed this week.

“Congrats to Coach Smart and the Bulldogs,” Ossoff said. “Go Dawgs! Let’s make it three in a row.”

“I want to wish a big congratulations to Coach Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs on winning a second straight national championship,” Warnock said. “You make Georgia proud today and every day and I’m happy our bipartisan resolution celebrating Georgia Football’s resilience and dominance made it to the endzone. Go Dawgs!”

No. 1 Georgia dominated No. 3 Texas Christian University, 65-7, to win the 2022 College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs became the first team to repeat as champions in the playoff era and the first team to repeat overall since Alabama in 2011 and 2012.

Georgia celebrated the championship with a parade and celebration in Athens, but some are hoping their celebration can continue in Washington D.C.

All 14 of Georgia’s U.S. House Representatives along with Ossoff and Warnock signed a letter requesting that the White House invites the Bulldogs to honor them later this year.

“For years, the college football national champion has had the high honor of being hosted, by the President, at the White House. Due to COVID-19 constraints, the 2021-2022 University of Georgia National Championship team was unable to come to D.C.”

“It is our hope that this repeat championship team can join the many teams prior that have been honored by the President. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope you will join us in recognizing the tremendous achievements of all University of Georgia’s football players, coaches, and staff who contributed to this championship season.”
