A local non-profit dedicated to finding dogs and cats a loving home had crucial piece of equipment taken from one of its locations.

Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters, says someone stole a van from the parking lot of its John Creek thrift store sometime Wednesday night.

“The loss of this van is a heartbreak for us and a significant blow to our organization,” said Samantha Shelton, CEO and Founder of Furkids. “It is so upsetting that someone would take a valuable asset from a nonprofit organization that has been serving the community for 18 years.”

Furkids used the van for pickups and donations to its thrift stores, animal shelters and adoption centers in metro Atlanta.

The organization said Johns Creek police is investigating and to be on the lookout for a van with Georgia tag RHP8476. Insurance won’t cover the cost to replace the van, so a fundraiser has been set up to help.
